SELF-LOVE

SELF LOVE
Most people grew up not loving themselves. It could be as a result of their upbringing, the society they were born into or some difficult experience they went through in life. At a point in my life I struggled with loving myself. I felt I wasn’t good enough, I wasn’t patient with myself, never appreciated myself and kept comparing myself with others. It affected my relationships and a lot more. It was a battle I had to fight.

WHAT IS SELF LOVE
Self-love is an unconditional feeling of love for oneself. Self-love means appreciating yourself, being kind to yourself, not looking down on yourself, not treating yourself as though life is a competition and you are one of the competitors.
When you look at the mirror and what you see is the opposite of what you admire in other people, will you still love yourself? When you do not succeed in a project or an examination, will you still love yourself? Are you patient with yourself? Are you hard on yourself and do not feel good about yourself? Then you need to read through this article.

WHY IS SELF LOVE IMPORTANT
1.       No one else can love you any better.
2.       You are unique. You are fearfully and wonderfully made for a special purpose.
3.       You can’t give what you don’t have, you can’t love others if you don’t love yourself. Without sufficient self-love we can’t truly love others.
4.       Wishing to be like someone is like condeming yourself to a life of misery and hurt because you can’t be any other than yourself.
5.       When you love yourself you will attract people who will love you for who you are.
6.       Hating yourself will be a great burden for you to bear.
7.       You can never live a fulfilled life hating yourself.
8.       Your weakness and shortcomings makes you different from others and are part of you for a unique purpose.
9.       You have a passion that when harnessed effectively will make you the favorite of others.
1.   If anyone deserves to be happy, it is you, live every moment as though it is your last.
1.   Every one has a shortcoming, flaws, bad experiences and all worth but what makes them different is the choice to keep loving and appreciate themselves despite all.
1.   You worth more than peoples opinion about you
1.   You deserve more than you think
1.   You are beautiful
.  . You will under estimate other peoples love for you. You will have less satisfaction in you relationships.

HOW DO YOU FIND SELF LOVE

Self love is not something you achieve in a day. It takes a continual and conscious effort to build self love.

1.       ACCEPT THAT THE FEELING IS THERE: Until you accept that you do not love yourself, you won’t be able to get over the feeling. Discover and accept the fact that you do not love yourself and make a conscious decision to value and love yourself.

2.       TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR INNER VOICE AND SPEAK POSITIVE WORDS TO YOURSELF: There is the possibility to feel bad and be hard on yourself when you are scolded at, or to feel disappointed at yourself when you look at the mirror. You need to be in control of what you say to yourself during those moments. Do not accept every word spoken to you, do not accept everything life throws at you. Take the positive ones that will build you up and discard the negative words.

3.       LEARN TO LET GO: Build your letting go muscles. Let go of every word or experience that has made you feel less of yourself. It could be words spoken to you by someone you so much admire. It could be a heartbreaking experience like a disappointment from a loved one. Just let it go. I have come to realize that the best is always in the future, but when we keep dragging the luggage from the past we won’t have enough space for the goods in the future.

4.       STOP COMPARING YOURSELF WITH OTHERS: One great disservice you can do to yourself is comparing yourself with others. No two persons are alike, we are in life to fulfill different purposes. That you aren’t there yet does not mean that you won’t get there. That someone else is there already does not mean that there are happy with where they are. So be contented with who you are and where you are now while you work towards being better than who you are now.

5.       FIND WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY: Discover what makes you happy and indulge in it often. Personally, when I get into that mood I listen to good music and sing along too, mostly Christian music. It could be getting involve in an activity or maybe going to a particular place, like the beach. But whatever it is, so long as it is not damaging or toxic, get involve. Do something you are good at, a hobby, for it will bring out the best in you and boost your self- esteem.
6.       NO ONE IS PERFECT: Realize the fact that no one is perfect. Everyone has their weaknesses, shortcomings and dirty lining probably dirtier that yours. What makes them look all perfect and strong is because they decided to do something you have failed to do which is to love themselves the way they are now while striving to be better.
7.       NO ONE TRULY LOVE GOD AND HATES HIMSELF: We are God’s image and so if you truly love God, you will also love his image.

No one is better than the other, we are all unique. Therefore love yourself for whom God has made you to be. If you truly love yourself, you will strive to be better than you are now.
